Facial deformity experts coming to Malaysia soon

Star: Children with disfigured faces will now have a chance to look good – thanks to the Australian Craniofacial Institute.
Over the next 12 months, a medical team from ACFI will make four trips to Malaysia to perform surgeries and provide treatment and consultation, as well as train local doctors.
The team, comprising craniofacial surgeon and ACFI executive director Professor David J. David, anaesthetist Dr Ian Wall and a nurse, will be flown in by Malaysia Airlines.
Until Nov 26, Prof David and Dr Wall will be going to private and government clinics to look at patients with very complex facial disfigurations.
Prof David said there were many reasons why children had disfigured faces, one being facial tumour.
He and his team have been working closely with the Health Ministry over the last three decades, training local craniofacial surgeons and flying very serious cases (for the poor) to Australia for treatment.
MAS sales, distribution and marketing senior general manager Datuk Rashid Khan said even though the company was trying to contain costs, it would not neglect sponsorship requests that were deserving.
