Healer meets ministry over probe into clinic

Star: PUTRAJAYA: A traditional healer who allegedly performed surgeries without anaesthesia at his clinic in Shah Alam has turned up at the Health Ministry to give his statement.
Known to his patients as Che Man, the “doctor” who earlier disappeared from his clinic was the fifth person to give his statement to the health authority.
Health Ministry’s Medical Practice Division director Dr Mohd Khairi Yakub said Che Man was traced during the Hari Raya period and told to give his statement after the holidays.
Investigation would be completed soon, he said, and the papers handed over to the Attorney-General for prosecution purposes.
Che Man, whose patients included local VIPs and those from overseas, had charged between RM350 and RM4,000 for cases such as removal of tumours, kidney stones and ovarian cysts.
“He is not a doctor and cannot practise modern medicine using the medical equipment we found at the clinic,” Dr Khairi said, adding that the medical fixtures at the clinic had been sealed and some moveable equipment seized.
If he broke the seal and continued to use the equipment without licence, he could be jailed three months, Dr Khairi warned.
Although Che Man had been operating for about 10 years, his activities only came to light in September. On Oct 11, the Health Ministry conducted a raid at the clinic but Che Man had bolted.
Dr Khairi said Che Man was allowed to continue with his traditional healing but not practise modern medicine without a licence.
