Unomedical issues safety alert for some airway adapters

WASHINGTON Unomedical Incorporated has issued a safety alert about its Hospitak airway adapters.
Officials with the McAllen, Texas-based company say several of the adapters have been blocked and could possibly cause serious or life-threatening injury to patients. One serious injury has been reported.

The adapters are used as accessories in a variety of ways to help keep patients' airways open. Unomedical says that if they become blocked or constricted, patients might not be able to breathe.

The Hospitak brand 22-millimeter/15-millimeter adapters are assembled in Mexico and distributed nationwide. The Food and Drug Administration says some were shipped to Malaysia.
