IRCS Website For Missing Persons

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 1 (Bernama) -- Families of victims of Sunday's tsunami can log on to the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Society's FamilyLinks.icrc.org website to find out about their loved ones, Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) honorary treasurer Fatimah Sulaiman said Saturday.
The website, based in Geneva, had the latest information about victims of the disaster, she told reporters after receiving donations from Putrajaya Holdings Sdn Bhd at the MRCS headquarters here.
Besides checking names, families and relatives of missing persons can also register themselves and provide details on the persons they are seeking to locate via the website.
On the relief operations, Fatimah said that from today, the MRCS had taken over the responsibility at 10 relief centres in Penang and Kedah.
She said that nearly 4,729 people were still at the relief centres and expected to be moved to a suitable location provided by the government in a week's time.
The MRCS has appealed to the public for help in its latest medicinal requirement which included injection syringes, Voltaren, pethidine, antibiotics, and intravenous and infusion fluids.
Due to fear of water contaminated diseases which is now spreading in Acheh, another team of 12 medical personnel would leave on Monday to replace the present team which had been there since Last Monday, she said.
