Grieving parents seek answers

Malay Mail: Eight parents have lodged a complaint with Health Ministry director-general Datuk Dr Mohd Ismail Merican yesterday over the deaths of their infants under dubious circumstances at Government and private hospitals in Selangor.
Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai accompanied the eight parents to the Health Ministry office in Putrajaya.
Tan said the cases occurred in 2004 and last year. Six of the babies died within seven days of birth. Two survived but suffered brain damage.
He said the cases were at the Selayang Hospital, Universiti Kebangsaan Hospital, Subang Jaya Medical Centre, Hospital Kuala Lumpur and the Ganesan Medical Centre in Rawang.
Tan said Ismail, who is also the Malaysian Medical Council chairman, said they will investigate the reports.
The investigations will be conducted by MMC through the Preliminary Investigation Committee which comprises appointed medical practitioners from the private and public sectors.
Tan said Ismail urged the parents to submit the medical reports to the Health Ministry for investigation.
Tan urged that the parents be allowed to engage their own medical experts during the inquiry.
