Star: KUALA LUMPUR: More benefits such as insurance coverage and income tax relief should be granted to the mentally ill, said National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye.
“People who are mentally ill are denied insurance coverage due to their condition,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Lee also called for better health services at government hospitals to mentally ill.
“Psychiatric drugs used by them should be affordable,” he said.
He urged corporations to create an employee assistance programme to help those with mental health problems.
“Some do not see that investing in staff well-being can bring beneficial returns in productivity and work performance,” he added.
Lee also wanted those who recovered from mental illnesses not to be discriminated against.
