The Star: KUALA LUMPUR: So, who said that Asian men are self-centred and do not care about their partner’s satisfaction?
If a survey among 1,000 Malaysian men here is an indication, 39% showed they are vital-sexuals.
This means they care about their partner’s sexual satisfaction.
The survey, commissioned by Bayer Healthcare, was conducted by independent research agency Taylor Nelson Sofres.
The head of the Health Research Development Unit at University Malaya’s Medical Faculty, Prof Dr Low Wah Yun, said the study debunked the common assumption that Asian men were self-centred and did not care about their partner’s satisfaction.
“This is good news for women,” said the chartered psychologist at a press conference here to announce the results of the survey yesterday.
One thousand Malaysian men, aged between 18 to 74 years, were interviewed in the survey conducted in December last year and January.
The survey assessed their sexual opinions, concerns and attitudes as well as the importance of sex to men. It also studied their desire for improved sexual relations and the sexual difficulties they may experience, in particular, erectile dysfunction (ED).
According to Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia's head of Urology Unit Dr Zulkifli Md Zainuddin, vital-sexuals were a newly discovered group of men aged 40 and above, who believe that sex and spontaneity in sex were important.
They also believe that their partner’s sexual satisfaction is vital.
“What is more important, vital-sexual men will take medication to solve their ED if the problem occurrs, and they are ready to admit it,” he said.
The study revealed that 75% of the respondents want to communicate more with their partners, 60% want to give more pleasure to their partners, 34% want to have longer sexual intercourse, 30% want to be more spontaneous in sexual relationships and 27% want to have frequent sexual relations. – Bernama
