Sabah holds bird flu dry run in village

Star: TAWAU: “Anxiety” and “fear” gripped the villagers at Kg Apas Parit, about 22km from here, when dozens of people in strange outfits scoured the area for three consecutive days.
The villagers watched in “dismay” as hundreds of their poultry were seized and “culled.”
To add to the drama, the police also put up roadblocks at all entry points leading to the idyllic but prosperous village.
The “operation” was actually just an exercise but it showed Sabah’s serious concern for better preparedness if there was an avian flu outbreak in the state.
The operation was held by Sabah's Veterinary Department and the Animal Husbandry Industry Department.
State Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Datuk Abdul Rahim Ismail attended the final day of the exercise on Thursday.
