Baby is fifth victim in Sarawak

Star: KUCHING: Another child has died of the hand, foot and mouth (HFM) disease, bringing the death toll in Sarawak to five.
Two other children are critically ill in the intensive care unit of the Sibu Hospital.
Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam said yesterday the latest victim was a 14-month-old girl from Bintulu, while the critically ill were a five-year-old boy and a seven-month-old girl.
“A further 56 children are still warded in the state. There were 251 new cases reported in the past 24 hours (up to noon yesterday),” he told reporters here.
In a related development, neighbouring Brunei has ordered the indefinite closure of all kindergartens, day- care centres and primary schools after a boy died of the HFM disease.
The Education Ministry said the move was part of “precautionary measures” after more than 30 cases of the disease were reported among children recently.
Sarawak has also ordered kindergartens and childcare centres to close.
Dr Chan said another primary school in Miri was shut yesterday, bringing the number closed to 10.
