Singapore Suspends Import Of Poultry Products From Perak

SINGAPORE, March 16 (Bernama) -- Singapore's Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority (AVA) Thursday suspended imports of poultry and poultry products from Perak following the detection of bird flu in the state.
AVA said in a statement late Thursday that it was informed by Malaysia's Department of Veterinary Services that an outbreak of H5N1 avian flu had been confirmed in Bukit Merah Laketown Resort's Ecopark and Kampung Changkat Tualang in Perak.
Two cases of suspected bird flu were detected in Perak last week, and confirmed as the H5N1 avian influenza Wednesday after tests.
AVA, Singapore's food security authority, said the suspension would not affect poultry imports from Johor, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan which were free of the disease.
The import suspension would not have any impact on chicken and egg supplies in the republic as there were no imports of chicken and eggs from Perak.
