Dengue situation improving in Penang

NST:The dengue situation in Penang has improved in recent weeks, with only 43 people still warded in hospitals.
Another good news was the decrease from 27 to four the number of mosquito breeding grounds detected, said State Health Committee chairman P. K. Subbaiyah.
He attributed the success to consistent efforts by government agencies and increased public awareness on the dangers of the disease.
"We hope to contain the outbreak by the end of next month. However, it all depends on efforts to destroy mosquito breeding grounds," he said after attending a briefing on cleanliness and quality of food in school canteens here today.
Subbaiyah said those still warded were in stable condition. A total of 296 people were admitted to several hospitals in the State at the peak of the outbreak
Subaiyyah said Jalan Pantai Jerjak and Jalan Permatang Damar Laut in the South-West district and Taman Lip Sin Garden and Jalan Rhu in Farlim in the North-East district of Penang island remained the four dengue hot spots in the State.
