NST: Eye care company Bausch & Lomb, whose ReNu contact lens solution has been linked to eye infections in Singapore and Hong Kong, will not be offering refunds or exchanges for the product here following the discovery of similar cases in Malaysia.
"It is important to remember that no cause for the infections has been found. The suspect cases in Malaysia have still to be investigated and verified," the company said.
Yesterday, the Health Ministry said it had directed Bausch & Lomb and other makers of solutions, including Alcon and Complete, to check the safety of their products.
Health Minister Datuk Dr Chua Soi Lek also recommended that pharmacists and ophthalmologists take ReNu off their shelves.
The move followed information from the Tun Hussein Onn Eye Hospital that 14 contact lens wearers had contracted fungal eye infections between January last year and February this year.
Six had used the ReNu brand, one a combination of ReNu and Alcon, while four had used Complete. The remainder were not specified, the Health Ministry said.
