Teachers, pupils cleared of HFMD

NST: The seven pupils and four teachers from Sarawak, who were down with fever while participating in the ongoing Girl Guides jamboree at Kem Bina Negara in Kaki Bukit, did not contract the hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD).
The 11, who were initially suspected of suffering from the disease, have been given the clean bill of health by the State Health authorities.
State Health Services director Dr Azmi Hashim said today that they would be discharged from the hospital tomorrow.
"We admitted all of them to the hospital on Monday afternoon because they showed symptoms of the disease upon checking into the camp.
"As a precautionary measure, we decided to admit all of them," Dr Azmi said, adding that the 11 were placed in an isolated ward.
The camp was attended by 600 junior guides, leaders and volunteers from the entire country. The juniors are aged between 13 and 15.
Dr Azmi also dismissed the possibility of the other participants contracting the disease.
"The Sarawak contingent members did not have any contact with the other participants because they were the first batch to check into the camp," he said.
