Discount card to get youths to give blood

Star: IPOH: In a bid to arrest the lack of blood supply at blood banks during the Ramadan and festive seasons, the Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) has come up with a discount card to woo young donors.
Called Pledge 25 programme, MRCS national vice-chairman Datuk Dr Bahari Abu Mansor said it was targeted at youths aged between 18 and 25.
“The programme, which started in the Philippines, has proven to be a success in helping to replenish the blood banks there,” he told reporters after the launch of the national-level blood donation campaign organised by MRCS at Stadium Indera Mulia here.
“The discount card will be given to youths who donate blood more than three times,” he said, adding that the card could be used to obtain discounts at food outlets.
“Currently, only a small percentage of the 11 million youths donate blood,” he said.
