Star: PENANG: Almost 100,000 people in Malaysia have pledged to donate their organs and more than half of them are below the age 40.
Health Ministry parliamentary secretary Datuk Lee Kah Choon said a proper follow-up on these people was needed as many of them were still young.
According to statistics from the National Transplant Resource Centre, 58.8% of the 96,549 people who pledged for the donation were below 40 years old, he said.
“These people will live at least another 30 to 50 years, during which relevant bodies should contact them from time to time,” he said before opening a public forum on organ donation at the Penang Hospital.
