Sale of Medicines by Pharmacies Must Strictly Abide By Conditions

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 14 (Bernama) -- The Health Ministry imposes strict control on the sale of psychotropic medicines and poisons like Valium, Dormicum and Xanax as well as antibiotics in cream form at pharmaceutical outlets.
Health Minister Datuk Dr Chua Soi Lek said even though the sale of such medicines were allowed, they must comply with the ministry's conditions.
He said pharmacies selling them must record them in the prescription record book and the balance recorded accurately.
He said pharmacies were allowed to sell such medicines including antibiotics to be taken orally or intravenously only with prescriptions from registered medical doctors and record the name and address of the buyer, the name and dosage as well as the quantity of the medicine bought in the prescription record book.
"Pharmacies found selling medicines including antibiotics to be taken orally or intravenously without doctors' prescriptions can face action under the Poisons Act 1952.
