KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 (Bernama) -- The MIC will send an official overseas to seek out suitable universities where students interested in medicine who could not get places in local varsities could pursue their studies, party president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said Thursday.
He pointed out that 45 Indian students obtained places to do medicine in the country this year compared to 43 last year.
However, he added, there were almost equally qualified students who failed to get places to do medicine in public universities locally.
"These are the students that we must take care and send elsewhere as they didn't get seats here," he said.
Samy Vellu said that this year, 2,232 Indian students had obtained places in public universities in the country.
He also said that the MIC would help qualified Indian students to pursue suitable courses to develop skilled workers to assist in the human resource development of the country.
He said 250 to 500 students would be selected annually to undergo such courses at the Tafe College in Negeri Sembilan.
Tafe College would also send its officers to Australia to look at new courses that can be pursued to fulfil the human resource development needs, he said.
