KUALA TERENGGANU, Aug 1 (Bernama) -- The Health Ministry will continue to hold various promotions to step up awareness among the people on the importance of breastfeeding, Health Minister Datuk Dr Chua Soi Lek said Monday.
He said the measure was to safeguard, support and promote breastfeeding in the country.
Besides, various forms of training were also given to health personnel, such as Lactation Management Training and Breastfeeding Counselling Training, he said, adding that the latest, Baby Friendly Hospital National Evaluation Training, would be held in Kota Kinabalu from Aug 22 to 25.
Dr Chua said this at the launch of the national-level World Breastfeeding Week 2005 at Wisma Darul Iman here by Permaisuri Nur Zahirah of Terengganu. The text of his speech was read out by the ministry's Director of the Family Development Division, Datuk Dr Norimah Awin.
Dr Chua said 114 government hospitals had been recognised as Baby Friendly Hospitals.
"Up to May this year, four private hospitals had also been accorded that recognition, they being the Pantai Medical Centre, Ipoh Specialist Hospital, Selangor Medical Centre and Damansara Specialist Centre," he said.
