Charity jogathon raises funds for children’s cancer fund

More than 500 people, from school children to senior citizens, ignored hazy conditions to take part in a charity jogathon at Taman Tasik Perdana yesterday morning.
The jogathon was organised by Merck Sdn Bhd, a pharmaceutical company which markets Seven Seas products, to mark the brand’s 70th anniversary.
Its pharmaceutical division’s general manager for consumer health care Siti Nooruhani Ibrahim said the event was to show appreciation to Malaysian consumers as well as to raise money for the Children’s Cancer Fund.
"The proceeds from this jogathon will be donated to the fund through the National Cancer Society of Malaysia. We will also donate RM1 on every Seven Seas product sold from August to September this year to the organisation," she said.
She said that such activities promotes interaction among peers and family, and this was a positive way of enhancing their way of life — physically and mentally .
Participants gathered at the Lake Gardens as early as 7.30am before the race was flagged off by National Population and Family Development Board director-general Datuk Fatimah Saad.
Winners of the jogathon received a hamper of Seven Seas products worth RM25,000.
Also present were the Society’s adviser Datuk Zuraidah Atan and Olympic Council of Malaysia deputy president Datuk Dr M. Jegathesan.
