KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11 (Bernama) -- Concerned about the worsening haze in the city and several areas in Selangor, a courier service company, GD3 Express Sdn Bhd (GDEX), and an integrated local healthcare company, Pharmaniaga Berhad, Thursday distributed free face masks to the public and workers.
GDEX is distributing 20,000 face masks to the public for free.
The head of Brand Development and Marketing of GD Express Carrier Bhd, David Tan said the company's staff distributed some 12,000 masks to the public in several areas including Bukit Bintang, Central Market, Subang SS15 and Damansara Uptown, Thursday.
Friday, the company will open a small booth at the Petaling Jaya New Town Centre (MPPJ area) to distribute another 5,000 to 6,000 face masks to the public.
Tan said the distribution of the free face masks was part of the company's social responsibility.
Meanwhile in Shah Alam, Pharmaniaga Berhad distributed 6,250 face masks to traffic policemen, firemen, postmen and also to the Kolej Yayasan UEM and Sekolah Menengah Sains Selangor.
A ceremony was held today where the company's Organisation Development senior general manager Izhar Shaari distributed the masks to the respective recipients.
As at 2 pm Thursday, the Air Pollutant Index (API) in Shah Alam was 374 with a visibility of less than 500 metres.
