Star: KUCHING: The Rajah Charles Brooke Memorial Hospital, which for decades treated lepers, will soon treat patients with broken bones.
Its director, Dr Oui Siew Kim, said that the hospital in Jalan Puncak Borneo, near here, would have an orthopaedic ward in four months.
“The ward will operate through networking with the Sarawak General Hospital,” she added.
The Brooke hospital, which was turned into an outpatient clinic several years ago, held its open day with an anti-smoking theme on Saturday.
Dr Oui said the hospital treated between 200 and 250 patients daily, and it also provided mother and child care, diabetic treatment and laboratory services.
She said smokers who wanted to kick the habit could come to the hospital for help.
State Health Department senior assistant director Dr Lee Khoon Siew, who launched the open day, urged medical staff who were smokers to quit the habit.
