More medical staff to tackle fresh HFMD outbreak

NST: KUCHING: Additional medical personnel arrived here on Wednesday to help fight the second wave of the hand, foot and mouth disease (HFMD).
The Ministry of Health team comprises a paediatrician, five medical officers, four assistant environmental health officers, four nurses and four medical assistants.
Five more are expected to arrive today, Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr George Chan announced after he was briefed on the latest outbreak yesterday.
The team members are sourced from hospitals in the peninsula and their two-week stint here is aimed at gathering data to formulate new approaches to tackle the outbreak.
All of them will be posted to Miri Division which has the most number of cases this time.
Yesterday, 49 new cases were reported in the State, 20 of them in the Miri Division.
The total number of cases has reached 13,057.
