Star: KUCHING: A kindergarten in Miri was closed yesterday as 65 new cases of hand, foot and mouth disease were reported throughout the state.
Tadika Methodist Krokop was ordered to shut for two weeks, becoming the sixth kindergarten to be closed in the second outbreak since the end of May.
A primary school in Padawan here was also ordered to close last month.
Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Dr George Chan said 22 new cases were reported in Miri division, 19 in Kuching, 10 in Sibu, six in Mukah and four in Bintulu.
Six children were admitted to hospital, bringing to 22 the number of patients currently warded. The total number of cases now stands at 12,958.
