Dad: Probe clinics over refusal to treat

NST: IPOH: The father of a murder victim wants the Health Ministry to investigate news reports that two clinics declined to help his 18-year-old son after he was slashed by snatch thieves in Kuala Lumpur on July 29.
Lee Mook Kwai, 54, said reports in the Chinese Press had said that one clinic had given the excuse that it did not have the equipment to treat Kean Yip. Its staff had also allegedly said that the doctor was at a meeting.
Staff at the other clinic had reportedly said that the doctor on duty was not around.
The retired company manager said the ministry could seek the co-operation of reporters who wrote the stories.
"The ministry should look into this. If it is true, I don’t want the same thing to happen to others," he said at his Taman Cahaya Tasek, Bercham, home here yesterday.
Health Ministry parliamentary secretary Datuk Lee Kah Choon and Canning state assemblyman Vincent Hooi My-Hon were also present.
The first year accounting student at the Tunku Abdul Rahman College in Kuala Lumpur died minutes after he was slashed by two snatch thieves along Jalan 27/27B in Desa Setapak in the 8.30pm incident.
Meanwhile, Kah Choon said more information was needed on what the reports based their information on.
"We cannot take action based on hearsay as it would be unfair on the other party."
Anyone with information on the incident or the identity of those who sought assistance from the clinics can contact Kah Choon at 03-88832505.
